Charge it where you charge your phone

No charging stations, no queues. A Karaa battery charges from any ordinary wall socket, at home, at work or at a kiosk.

You charge a Karaa e-bike by lifting the battery off and plugging its charger into any ordinary wall socket or solar system. Empty to full takes six to seven hours and about UGX 700 of electricity, enough for up to 120 km.

The most common worry about electric bikes is charging. The answer is shorter than the worry: if a socket can charge your phone, it can charge your bike.

Any socket works

Every Karaa battery is removable. Slide it off the bike, carry it inside, and plug it into an ordinary socket at home, at work or at a trading-centre kiosk. A full charge costs about UGX 700 worth of electricity and moves you up to 120 km on the long-range battery.

There is no special infrastructure to wait for. No charging stations, no fuel queues, no jerry cans. Solar systems work too; the battery does not care where the electrons come from.

Swap for zero downtime

Riders who cannot afford downtime carry a second battery (UGX 1,000,000) and swap in seconds: one charges while the other works.

We are also developing ways for the same battery to run lights or a small water pump off the bike, so where the grid is thin the bike could double as the power bank.
