Electric bikes for milk collection
A milk collector’s morning is a race against the sun. Milk spoils; distance is money. Most collectors ride ordinary bicycles because motorcycles cost too much to buy and to fuel. The bicycle is free to run but slow, and the hills between farms are where the morning goes.
An electric conversion changes the same route. With pedal assist to 32 km/h, a collector covers more farms before the heat, carries full jerrycans up hills without walking, and reaches the cooling centre while the milk is still cold. No fuel bill arrives at the end of the week.
The battery earns its keep after the round too. It is removable, and it runs lights and charges phones, useful where the grid does not reach the homestead.
The arithmetic works at dairy scale. A kit costs from UGX 990,000, less than a season of motorcycle fuel, and the motor is warranted for 10,000 km. Cooperatives converting collectors’ own bicycles get fleet pricing per order.
