Electric bike delivery jobs in Kenya: what a Karaa kit changes

Kenya’s delivery gig economy runs mostly on motorcycles and bicycles, and electric motorcycles reached 15.3% of new motorcycle registrations there in 2025. A Karaa-converted bicycle is a lower-cost entry point into the same delivery work, for a rider who doesn’t need a motorcycle’s range to cover a city delivery round.

Kenya is one of Karaa’s live markets alongside Uganda and Zambia. A rider already doing delivery work on a standard bicycle, for a food delivery app or a local courier service, faces the same choice a Ugandan rider does: convert the bicycle already doing the job, or save toward a much larger outlay for a motorcycle. The Karaa Range kit is UGX 1,650,000 fitted at Uganda retail, including Uganda VAT. Kenyan buyers pay the export price, US$420 per kit for orders of 50 or more, without Uganda VAT, shipped and supported from Kampala.

Delivery throughput is the real argument for going electric rather than staying on a standard bicycle. A Poland-based study of food-delivery couriers found e-bike riders complete roughly two to three times more orders a day than couriers on foot, and noticeably more than a standard bicycle too. The mechanics are the same in Nairobi or Mombasa as in Kraków: a rider who isn’t slowed by hills or fatigue by mid-shift covers more of the city and takes more orders in the same hours.
